Proof impression on Kelmscott paper (with Morris's "Perch" watermark) of a wood engraving by William Harcourt Hooper after a design by Arthur Gaskin to illustrate the Kelmscott Press edition of William Morris's The well at the world's end (Hammersmith : Printed by William Morris at the Kelmscott Press, 8 May 1896); Gaskin's designs were ultimately rejected by Morris and the book was instead issued by the Kelmscott Press with four wood engraved illustrations after designs by Edward Burne-Jones.
