Proof on india paper of a wood engraving by William Harcourt Hooper after a design by Edward Burne-Jones to illustrate "The house of fame", page 448 of William Morris's Kelmscott Press edition of the Works of Geoffrey Chaucer (Hammersmith : Printed by William Morris at the Kelmscott Press, 8 May 1896).
From a drawing by Burne-Jones, the design reworked for transfer to woodblock by Robert Catterson-Smith, and subsequently engraved by William Harcourt Hooper.
Signed by the engraver with his monogram at lower right.
Uncorrected state, before the right eye of Venus, the leaves adorning the head of Cupid, and the robe of the figure at far right were retouched by the engraver.
