Proof impression india paper of a wood engraving by William Harcourt Hooper after a design by Edward Burne-Jones to illustrate page 153, "The squire's tale", in William Morris's Kelmscott Press edition of the Works of Geoffrey Chaucer (Hammersmith : Printed by William Morris at the Kelmscott Press, 8 May 1896).
From a drawing by Burne-Jones, the design reworked for transfer to woodblock by Robert Catterson-Smith, and subsequently engraved by William Harcourt Hooper.
Signed with Hooper's monogram at lower left.
Uncorrected state, before a number of lines were removed or retouched by the engraver, including the removal of the strong lines on the foremost storage jar where they touch the knight's foot and stirrup.
