"At the time these sample lines were set only eleven lowercase letters had been cut. This was presumably the specimen of which Morris sent an 'overinked' example to F.S. Ellis on 27 August 1890."--Needham.
Forms part of a group of designs, proofs, letters, etc., evidently compiled by Sydney Cockerell and concerning the early days of the Kelmscott Press and William Morris's work as typographical designer; removed from library's copy of: A note / by William Morris on his aims in founding the Kelmscott Press ; together with a short description of the press by S. C. Cockerell, & an annotated list of the books printed thereat.
