Five volume set consists the first edition of Gérard's 1774 novel in 3 volumes and his 2 volume continuation of that work published in 1778.
"Seconde partie"--title pages of volumes 4 and 5.
Volumes 4 and 5 have imprint: Chez Moutard, imprimeur-libraire de La Reine, de Madame, & de Madame le Comtesse d'Artois, rue des Mathurins, a Hôtel de Cluny.
With an "Explication des figures" included at the head of each volume.
Volume 1: xii, 551 pages, (4 leaves of plates); volume 2: 480 pages, (3 leaves of plates, numbered v-vii); volume 3: 530 pages, (3 leaves of plates, numbered viii-x); volume 4: x, 491 pages, (2 leaves of plates, numbered xi-xii); volume 5: 509 pages, (2 leaves of plates, numbered xiii-xiv).
Illustrated with 14 numbered full-page etchings, including 10 plates in volumes 1-4 by Le Villain after Liot, and 4 in volumes 4-5 engraved by Dambrun and Louis Le Grand after Monnet.
Volumes 4 and 5 published in 1778 as a continuation of Gérard's original novel in 3 volumes, the first edition of which was issued by Moutard in 1774.
