"The book has been designed, set by hand and printed under the direction of Caresse Crosby in the city of New York and is strictly limited to 800 numbered copies of which copies 1 to 50 are printed on Japan Vellum and signed by the author."
In addition to the 50 deluxe, there were an unknown number of lettered copies marked in pencil Hors de Commerce (cf. Minkoff); and, according to Crosby, three additional copies lettered A, B, or C.
Library's copy marked A -- one of 3 lettered copies designated by Crosby for Joyce, herself, and B.W. Huebsch, according to her letter to Heubsch (sic) dated Dec. 3. 1936 (a photocopy of that letter is enclosed with this copy). Printed on Japan Vellum like other deluxe copies.

Publisher's cream-colored boards stamped in gold on upper board with a floral design; spine lettered in gold; top edge gilt, blue ribbon place mark; in glassine wrapper and gold cardboard slipcase. Housed in modern black cloth chemise and matching quarter black leather case, stamped in gold on spine and on one side with collectors vignette (initials D.M.S.).
