The twenty-eight individually numbered characters with accompanying riddles were to be cut out and used for playing a riddle game at parties during mid-winter celebrations.
The illustrated wrapper shows a game board, consisting of two concentric tracks with numbers 1-28 in non-numerical order. These numbers refer to numbers listed on the small explanatory fortune-telling sheet. The circular image in the center shows a Twelfth Night cake and two large keys. Two circular images, left and right of center, show zodiac signs, a half moon, and a shooting star; scroll-work ornaments in the four corners.
