The Society of Printers of Boston presents this reproduction of a page from the first printed book, being the first page of the book of Daniel as it appeared in the Gutenberg or "forty-two line" Bible of 1450-1455, on the occasion of a talk by Harry Lyman Koopman, librarian of Brown University, at the Massachusetts Normal Art School Hall, on Thursday, January MCMXXIV; the first of a series of discussions of book and advertising typography arranged by the society.

"The facsimile was made by the Folsom Engraving Company directly from the original which is preserved in the library of a Boston gentleman to whom the Society and its friends are much indebted. This Keepsake has been printed under the direction of George Parker Winship and Anselmo Bianchi at The Riverside Press in Cambridge on paper as nearly as possible like that of 1450 selected by Herbert Farrier from the stock of the Japan Paper Company" (leaf [1]v).
The leaf of the Gutenberg Bible is a Noble Fragment of the Prologue to Daniel (vol. II, f. 131r).
