Title and suggested date from Everyday life in Holland's golden age (catalogue of the complete etchings of Adriaen van Ostade by S.W. Pelletier & L.J. Slatke).
A later state, with the vertical lines extending into the seat of the bench at far left, added in state VI, present but barely visible, probably due to wear or later reworking.
Mounted as item 23 into an album of 63 etchings by van Ostade, evidently created by collecter Achille Seilliere (PML 4350).
With artist's signature and date of "1653" within the plate at bottom left.
