The inhabitants of York are respectfully informed that the music & mob parading the different streets in this city at a very seasonable house last night and this morning, were headed, led on, and altogether under the direction of the hero of the turf, a noted trap, and a party, call'd The Orange!!! Let no other party be blamed--set the saddle on the right ass!!

Notes
The "hero of the turf" was Sir Mark Masterman Sykes (1771-1823), whose supporters were celebrating his election to Parliament as the candidate for the Tory party. The boisterous mob knew about his accomplishments as a horse racing sportsman, but was less likely to admire his magnificent private library. His copy of the Gutenberg Bible is now at the Morgan, along with other monuments of early printing he has acquired for his collection, which sold in 1824 for around £18,000.
