The author, William Harvey, writing under the pseudonym Aleph, compiled the maps and wrote the verses that accompany them. The illustrations were meant as a humorous, educational aid in the study of geography. The maps were drawn by Lilian Lancaster when she was only 14. She became a successful actress from the age of 16.
