Date of writing inferred from internal evidence; the honorary dinner held at the Restaurant Champeaux for Daumier, was, according to contemporary sources, organized by Daumier's fellow artists at the Charivari to celebrate his return to the periodical, and was held on March 30, 1864.
Part of a collection of 14 letters from Charles Daubigny to Charles Chaplin bound into a copy of C. Daubigny et son œuvre gravé by Frédéric Henriet (see PML 147611).
