Notes
Apparently an incomplete copy of the 1843 reproduction printed in Hartford by Webster. Lacking: two leaves of advertisement, introduction, and certificates. Includes: Portrait of John Hancock (recto) ; Divine song by the Rev. Dr. Watts (verso) ; 1777 t.p. (recto) ; two child's prayers by Watts (verso) ; and signatures as follows: (1*⁸ 2⁴ 2*⁸ 3⁴ 3*⁸ 4² *⁴)
For variations between different editions of reprints of the 1777 edition of the primer, cf. George Parker Winship's "Notes on a reprint of the New England primer improved, for the year 1777", Cambridge [1922] in which are described 13 editions or issues.
This copy might agree with Winship's description of the eighth edition with the portrait, divine song, and title on pages 5, 6, and 7, as well as the 5th line of the Dialogue on p. 76 ending in "correct", not "corrent". Without the preliminary four pages, though, it is not possible to determine the exact edition.
