Originally issued in three series (London : Bentley, 1840-1847). The present edition is a selection of tales, chiefly in verse, from the 1st and 2nd series.
The illustrations are copies of the original etchings after R.H. Dalton Barham (the author's son), George Cruikshank, and John Leech, re-engraved by A. Kollner and lithographed by P.S. Duval. The plates and t.p. are signed A. Koellner, eng., and or Duval, lith. The frontispiece is signed George Cruikshank. The t.p. is copied from the 2nd series.
