Songs "copy n" comprised of nine leaves numbered by Bentley as 2, 13, 30-1, 37, 44, 47, 50, and b.
Lacking the combined title plate as well as the t.p. for Songs of innocence (dated 1789) and t.p. for Songs of experience (dated 1794).
These leaves were likely printed from Blake's plates by Frederick Tatham, who had inherited them from Catherine Blake after her death on 31 Oct. 1831.
Printed in various shades of grey except pl. 13, which is printed in reddish-brown; all plates uncolored.
Plate 2 printed on heavier stock of paper.
Watermark on pl. 13: J. Wha[tman] / 183[ ].

Bentley, pp. 130-1) sold with the Library of Robert Arthington (Sotheby's 17 May 1866, lot 24) to Pickering; acquired by Henry White (Christie's 1 June 1887, lot 258) and later sold with his Library (Sotheby's 21 April 1902, lot 270) to Roberts; sold anonymously (Sotheby's 6 Dec. 1905 lot 921); sold anonymously (Sotheby's 15 Dec. 1906, lot 482) where it was purchased by Abbey on behalf of Pierpont Morgan.

Formerly bound with other items in an album described in 1905 as contemporary rough calf; now matted and housed in solander case.
