Name of manufacturer, titles, and directions in English, German, and French from label attached to bottom of box.
Sand toy comprising a glass-front viewing box made of cardboard covered on the sides with dark blue glassine paper and a decorative gold strip around the edges. A colored lithograph of an interior with fireplace displays a black man dancing between two seated black musicians. Behind is hidden the sand-operated mechanism.
Sand toys operate by fine sand from a hopper trickling onto a paddle wheel. Cut-out paper figures with jointed limbs, attached to the paddle wheel with thin wire, move when the wheel is turning.
"Directions for its use. To set it in motion, turn the box entirely round twice, towards the left, taking care to keep it perpendicular, and with the glass front facing you, for without this precaution, the mechanism will not act. Set it down perfectly upright, and the tumbler will be in motion"--bottom of case
"Albert J. Wrigh[t]"--printed label and bookplate with name in black ink attached to bottom of case
