"Each book has its own title page. 'Alice' title states 'NEW EDITION, NEW YORK, MACMILLAN AND CO., 1881.' This appears to be a printing of the 1877 New Edition, and it also bears the printer's imprint (J.J. Little) on the verso of the title page. 'Looking-Glass' title states 'FIFTIETH THOUSAND' and has the imprint 'London and New York.' Macmillans's American 'Looking-Glass' during this period was taken from the 50th thousand of the London edition"--Cf. Lovett & Lovett.
