Summary
Print shows a village schoolmaster seated at a table in the center of a schoolroom brandishing a ferule; in front of him stands a small boy to whom the schoolmaster gestures angrily, directing him to place his hands on the edge of the table to receive punishment; at lower right, another small child sits on the floor wearing a dunce cap with asses' ears, and three other pupils are shown seated at the master's back, looking on with expressions of alarm.
