Notes
Blacket made the acquaintance of S.J. Pratt in 1808 and was forced to abandon his trade as a shoemaker's apprentice in 1809 owing to his ill health.
Manuscript of Blacket's poem in two stanzas; first line: No puerile verse these leaves enshrine.
At head of sheet in an unidentified hand: Lines to Mr. Pratt on the present of "Sympathy"; inscribed at upper right, possibly in the hand of S.J. Pratt: by my dear Mr. Blacket.
Writing on verso of sheet, rendered illegible by a second sheet affixed with sealing wax to Blacket's manuscript as backing paper.
Part of a large collection of prints, drawings, and letters bound into an extra-illustrated copy of Thomas Moore's Letters and journals of Lord Byron (PML 146390-97); assembled by collector David Langton and formerly in the possession of John Dillon and Gordon Ray.
