Stating that the involved state of his own affairs makes it impossible for him to be of any service to him; commiserating with Pratt's impecunious circumstances ("You have however a consolation - which I cannot boast - that your difficulties are neither to be imputed to vice nor imprudence") as well as those of their mutual acquaintance, Mr. [R.C.] Dallas; and returning "your friend's letter with your annexed production".
