The board consists of an engraved non-colored sheet mounted in twelve sections on a single sheet of linen. Usually described as a game, but really an educational chart with six concentric tracks around a circular center, it displays clock-wise a numbered chronology of English monarchs from William I to William IV, accompanied by a four line verse about each. The innermost circle contains the genealogy, showing the immediate descents and listing all of the descendants.
In each of the four corners, enclosed in an ornamental circular frame, are featured: The title, Directions for the learner, Genealogical notes, and Historical and chronological notes. On both sides of the chart, two scroll-shaped bars which list the Saxon kings from Egbert to Harold and the dates of their ascent and duration of reign, and their consorts from Matilda of Flanders to Queen Adelaide of Saxe Meinengen and the dates of their marriages.
