Frontispiece and title plate for a set of 7 prints by Sayers entitled Outlines of the Opposition in 1795 collected from the works of the most capital Jacobin Artists.
Print shows an artist (Mr. Wilberforce), a partly draped figure with small horns among his loosely curling hair, pointing with both hands to a picture on an easel at right, turning his head towards the spectator. In front of him is a table on which are his painting materials. The painting on the easel is of a man with the face of a wolf (Mr. Fox), wearing a sheepskin with the sheep's head on his head. In his right hand is a firebrand, the left supports the long staff of a flag inscribed 'Watch Word Peace'. Above it hovers a dove with an olive branch. At his feet stands a snarling wolf, also in sheep's clothing. A mastiff standing beside the artist barks at the (painted) wolf. Cf. George.
Item no. 126 of a collection of prints by James Sayers (PML 146857); formerly part of an album of mounted prints, now disbound.
