The board consists of a hand-colored, engraved sheet mounted in six sections on a single folded sheet of linen; embellished with 44 numbered illustrations of animals arranged counter-clockwise in spiral formation around the central lion.
The title page of the 24 page booklet of rules reads: Explanation to Wallis's new game of The Naturalist. Second edition. London : Printed for J. and E. Wallis, 42, Skinner-Street, Snow-Hill; and J. Wallis, Sidmouth. 1815.
The board of library's copy now unfolded and matted (PML 85727.1) booklet (PML 85727.2) and slipcase (PML 85727.3) are stored separately in the same box.
The game requires counters, markers, and a teetotem, not supplied by publisher.
