Notes
Burke (or Bourke) was sentenced to death for his part in the Rising in April of 1867. This was later commuted to life imprisonment on the intervention of the President of the United States and the Irish Cardinal Cullen of Dublin. However, he was released in 1871, returning to the United States where he died in 1889.
