Inscriptions/Markings
An elaborate full-page drawing by Thomas on the front free endpaper depicts a bar scene (probably the famous Fitzroy Tavern, the social center of London's artistic underground and haunt of the hard-drinking Hamnett and Thomas) that includes a self-caricature of the author among the half-baked denizens. The rear free endpaper has a full-page color drawing of Hamnett as a topless dancer and bears a birthday inscription presumably from John Malcolm Brinnin to Hamnett, whose February birthday coincided with the book's month of publication.
