A parody of L'honnête criminel, by C.G. Fenouillot de Falbaire, and other works. For discussion, cf. Paradrames / introductions et notes de Martine de Rougemont. 1998. p. 18-19.
Text consists of ca. 3-10 brief phrases and single words per page, separated by blank spaces and marks of punctuation. In the "Avis au public" (p. [1]-4), the author explains that the accompanying illustrations were nearing completion before he had finished the poem, and that he did not wish to delay "les bons effets que ce poëme doit nécessairement produire" by completing it before publication.
With 5 aquatint plates (image 85 x 70 mm) by J.B. Le Prince. According to BN and Hédou, all in 2nd state. Cohen-De Ricci states that plates in this state were issued with the 2nd ed.
Issued with appended text (16 p.): Lettre d'un jeune metaphysicien, a une jeune dame qui ses raisons pour avoir de l'esprit, sur Le roué vertueux et consorts; with separate t.p. with imprint reading, "A Londres [i.e. Paris]. 1770."
Library's copy acquired with an original preliminary drawing by Le Prince for the illustration appearing at p. 19, Chant premier ("Oh crime! Oh consolante horreur!"); transferred to Dept. of Drawings and Prints (see 2013.96).
