A collection bound together of Seventeenth Century engraved frontispiece-titlepages, from a representative selection of the best publishers of the time, but featuring specially that of Elzevir, so well-known for its fine workmanship and small format. A number of the engravings are really artist's proofs, before the lettering has been added. Erasmus, Sir Thomas More, Quevedo, and a host of other equally famous names are here, the plates are neatly mounted and attractively bound, forming a resumé of a sort of literary and artistic life of the period."--bookseller's note laid in.
