Entirely engraved, with an engraved illustration at head of sheet showing a group of women seated around a table and drinking, with a man peeking into the room from behind a door and far left and an epergne full of apricots at right.
Thomas Hawes, the father of Dr. William Hawes (1736-1808), was for many years the landlord of the Thatched House (also known as Job's House) tavern in Islington, and it is stated that his son was born on the premises; some sources additionally give the name of Dr. Hawes's mother as Catherine Hawes, possibly the same individual responsible for the item described here.
