Notes
Set of 16 volumes (2 copies of vol. 8) a total of 17 volumes, contained in a specially made wooden bookcase. Divided into four compartments and lined with pink paper, it has a sliding front, on which is depicted a bookcase and a scene of children studying, in yellow, red, and green. On the back is pasted an engraved label with title and publisher information.
The set was originally published by John Marshall in 1800-1801. The volumes were reissued many times between the original publication date and 1819 when the entire set was reprinted.
Volumes issued ca. 1800-1807 were printed by Marshall at No. 4 Aldermary Church Yard; volumes issued ca. 1808-1818 were printed by Marshall at 140 Fleet Street.
In this set, Book 1 was printed at No. 4 Aldermary Church Yard, Bow Lane, Cheapside; Book 2 and [16] at No. 4 Aldermary Church Yard in Watling-Street.
All volumes are 60 x 47 mm and have an oval label imprinted with "Infant's Library" affixed to both covers.
All volumes have publisher's advertisements, except for books 1 and 2, and all have a colophon.
