Engraving originally published as a frontispiece plate to Laurence Braddon's Essex's innocency and honour vindicated, or, Murther, subornation, perjury, and oppression, justly charg'd on the murtherers of that noble lord and true patriot, Arthur (late) earl of Essex (London: : Printed for the author, 1690).
Lettered with key explaining the scene, and banderoles with inscriptions coming from the mouths of Capel and his alleged murderers, with additional inscriptions emanating from the eye, ear, and sword of divine justice in the clouds above the scene of the murder.
Mounted as item 144 into an album of collected prints, broadsides, drawings, and miscellaneous single sheet items, assembled by former owner Joseph Ames and entitled "Emblematical and satirical prints on persons and professions" (PML 145850).
