A copy or later altered state of a print published by Gerard de Jode, which was originally issued ca. 1550-1570 as one of a set of four engravings representing allegories on the proper use of Time, with translations of the Latin text added here in Dutch and French and the number "I" added at foot. The area within the image where Jode's name appeared in the earlier print has here been covered with engraved lettering.
Engraved lettering at upper left: Temporis utendi...necessitatem; at upper left: Artificium manus...beant; at far right, in right hand corner: Omnia in mensura, et numero et pondere. Sap. II, v. 21; in margin below image with four lines of verse in Latin: Si sua cognorunt...officium. With translations of the Latin text added throughout in Dutch and French.
Mounted as item 52 into an album of collected prints, broadsides, drawings, and miscellaneous single sheet items, assembled by former owner Joseph Ames and entitled "Emblematical and satirical prints on persons and professions" (PML 145850).

Summary
Print shows Father Time, winged, standing at centre of a field, pointing towards left, with various people and trades busy working around him, including farmers, bread-makers, metalworkers, spinners, shoemakers, shepherds, tailors, booksellers, etc. The figure of Time is lettered directly below "I Tempus laborandi ad necessita tem proximi".
