Summary
A complex composition showing an allegorical tree with roots which emerge from a river and transform into different paths taken by believers to arrive at a knowledge of God. The tree is flanked by 12 theologians, identified by name, who gaze up its crown, where the proofs of the existence of God emerge from the branches. In the foreground, the allegorical figures of Physica, Ethics, and Logic are shown watering sunflowers, irises, and roses.
