Summary
Print depicts the Last Judgment, with a central design showing various members of society emerging from a cracked and smoking sphere and climbing a ladder at right, from which they fall into a hopper and tumble into an enormous bolter or sifter shaken by the crowned figure of Death, who stands at left. At lower right, demons pounce upon the damned as they fall from the bolter and drag them into the mouth of Hell, while redeemed souls scale a rocky mountain to Heaven at far left, assisted by an angel. Father Time and Adam and Eve with the serpent and Tree of Knowledge appear at immediate left of center, and above are depicted two winged animals that appear to be dogs, one black and one white. Various passages from Petrarch accompany the figures within the design.
