Descriptive table in 9 leaves with caption title "A tabular view to accompany the 'Chronological pictures of English history'", published by Thomas Varty et al., followed by 40 tinted lithographic plates, 5 of them by Waterhouse Hawkins and the rest by John Gilbert, each illustrating a reign in the history England in 8 or more panels showing different subjects.
Contemporary publisher's notices indicate that 35 of the plates with tabular descriptive text by Eliza Cartwright were originally published in 7 parts from ca. 1842 to 1844; later editions evidently followed, with an edition containing 40 plates published in 8 parts, with each part containing 5 plates, advertised as a new publication by the firm of Varty and Owen in 1852.
Imprint on the plates varies, with the publisher variously identified as Thomas Varty, Roake & Varty, and Varty & Owen.
