Vol. 1 consists of 587 individual prints on 152 leaves, numbered 1-582, but with additional plates 86*, 100*, 207*, 379*, 379**, 379***, and omitting number 238 from the sequence; v. 2, without t.p., is supplementary and contains 45 additional "suppressed" prints on 23 sheets.
Impressions are restrikes from original plates formerly in possession of the Humphrey's family, the family firm of printsellers chiefly responsible for the publication of the original impressions of Gillray's etchings; the copperplates acquired from the family by Bohn and issued ca. 1847-1851, with the addition of numbering within the plates.
