According to contemporary notices of publication, Planché's Souvenir of the Bal Costumé was issued in 20 nos. comprising 2 distinct series of plates, the first entitled "Her Majesty's court of Queen Phillipa" and the second "The Duchess of Cambridge's quadrilles"; date and gold background on chromolithographic dedication leaf printed over text reading "Vol. 1 Court of Queen Phillipa".
With 56 hand-colored lithographic costume prints, including 54 prints comprising the main work and 2 additional plates representing variant studies of Prince Albert and the Duchess of Buccleuch; the figures printed within decorative gold borders.
Chromolithographed dedication leaf, signed, "H. Johnston fecit. ... Printed in colours by C. Graf."
Text printed in blue ink.
The leaves of plates are accompanied by blank guard sheets and leaves of descriptive letterpress.
