"'Uncorrected advance proofs" in publisher's wrappers and very scarce proof dustwrapper. Both the book and the proof differ significantly from the published version: the title-page is in draft form only, with the position of author and title reversed, and the wording of the dedication is longer than that in the book. More significantly, the last sentence of the novel has been completely recast. A manuscript correction on p. 244 changes "I" to "me" in the phrase "for the likes of you and I", but this pedantic alteration was not incorporated in the final text. The proof dustwrapper has a different background, a different photograph (of a similar, but not identical, watch of the same make), and the blurb contains three paragraphs instead of two, all of which differ considerably from the published version."--Peter Straus's inventory.
