Drawing shows a scene in a church where a clergyman stands at the altar with his book in hand, ready to perform the marriage service; a young woman stands in front of him with her arms raised in an attitude of distress as a group of rough looking men armed with clubs endeavor to forcibly drag a struggling man to the altar and another man stands with his arm around the intended bride, one arm around her waist and the other pointing urgently at the unwilling groom.
