Blake died before the engravings commissioned by John Linnell were finished. According to Linnell family records, small editions were printed in 1838 and 1892. Twenty sets were printed for Lessing Rosenwald in 1954 from the original copperplates, which he had purchased from the Linnell family in 1937. See Bentley.

Removed from Divine comedy, translated by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Boston, 1869 (PML 3070). Now shelved with another set of the plates, PML 950.
