Authorship ascribed to William Combe, 1742-1828, in Notes and queries, 1869 (article by W. Papworth) and in the Dict. nat. biog., v. 11, p. 432, 434. The latter (v. 52, p. 147) also gives the work in the list of Frederic Shoberl's writing.

Originally issued in 20 monthly parts, May 1814-Dec. 1815; the collected issue appeared both with & without the 16 colored ports. of Founders of Cambridge colleges (these were also issued separately on Jan. 1, 1816), the "Arrangement of plates" leaf being specified as applying to copies "with or without the Founders".
Library's copy issued in 21 original printed wrappers; title pages, half titles, indices, &c. for both vols. contained in part 20; part [21] contains portraits of the founders.
