Date of publication from Cook; Ray identifies the Pickwick papers as the first volume of Chapman and Hall's Household edition of Dickens issued 1871-1879, and gives the book a date of 1871; Cook, however, gives the publication date as March of 1874 and cites a printed publisher's announcement from June of 1871 identifying Oliver Twist as the first volume to be published in the series later that year.
