The 13 lithographic proof plates, printed on india paper, are a reissue of the lithographs contributed by Bonington to F.-A. Pernot's larger work, Vues pittoresques de l'Ecosse, published in Paris in 1826, with text by Amédée Pichot. Cf. Curtis and Ray.
11 of the 13 lithographs were executed by Bonington after drawings by Pernot; the remaining 2 designs for A duel between Frank and Rashleigh and The escape from Argyle Castle, were created by Bonington after his own designs.
Captions are in English; individual plates signed: R.P. Bonington lithog. Printed by Villain ... London, published December 1st 1828, by Colnaghi Son & Co. no. 11, Pall Mall East.
Library's copy lacks printed wrappers; plates are trimmed to various sizes and mounted on folios 25, 26, 37-47 of a bound volume of collected prints by and after Bonington (see Bonington album PML 140269); title and publication information from Curtis.
