Collection comprises 11 out of the 12 pieces that were part of Borofsky's original "Pompeii Series," created in New York in 1986, and exhibited at the Mokatoff Gallery in November of that year. The artist subsequently made 3 additional pieces related to the series.
The photographs of Pompeii were originally one sheet, folded accordion-style in a travel booklet, with descriptions of the views in German, English, Italian and French printed on the verso (probably Ricordo Di Pompei 32 Vedute, Edizione Cecami, ca. 1930?).
Ten of the images are separately titled on the verso: no. 1, "Dog," no. 2, "Tag," no. 3, "Pattern # 1," no. 4, "Messenger," no. 5, "Protector of the mountain," no. 6, "Singing wheel," no. 7, "Caballero," no. 8, "Angel," no. 9, "Monkey [illegible]," no. 10, "Bird." No. 11 is untitled.
