Notes
Piranesi's so-called catalogo inciso is an historiated listing (image: 39 x 29 cm) with the line: Si vendoño presso il medesimo autore nel palazzo del Conte Tomati a Strada Felice, vicino alla Trinità de' Monti in the lower frame line. First produced by Piranesi in 1761, the single-sheet etching listed all his print series as well as the independent sheets comprising his Vedute di Roma that he had created to date. He periodically reworked the plate, which today thus provides a complete and roughly chronological listing of his works.
This is the second, longer listing of Piranesi's prints, being a posthumous example issued by Piranesi's son Francesco, who continued to print impressions from his father's plates long after the latter's death.
Below the main plate another plate continues the numbered listing to [137] and in the right column lists nine additional items concluding with Raccolta de tempi antichi by Francesco Piranesi, published in 1780.
