Shelley's revised copy of Laon and Cythna, probably used as the master copy for "Revolt of Islam" by Ollier and/or McMillan.
Inscribed in ink at top of Preface: Cancelled copy.
The 1st edition of Laon and Cythna, revised throughout by the author in ink for its re-issue as The Revolt of Islam, with the cancels for that title bound in beside the original leaves. With some pencil marginal notes and numbering of the cancel sheets, some presumably by Shelley, others by Charles Ollier.
Bound in between the cancel leaf of p. xxi of the Preface and its original (pp. xxi-xxii) is a single proof sheet, revised by the author and initialed by the printer.
The cancel title page for The Revolt of Islam, bound after the original title page, is dated 1817.
On the fly-title, "Laon and Cythna" has been crossed out and revised as "Othman" in Shelley's hand and subsequently struck through and revised to "The Revolt of Islam" in Ollier's hand.
