"The prints in this little book were made from zinc etchings, facsimiles of impressions of the woodblocks cut by Thomas Bewick about 1780 for 'The only method to make reading easy by T. Hastie, schoolmaster, Newcastle'. These blocks were among Bewick's early achievements ... W.M.S. [Wilbur Macey Stone]"--Leaf 8.
"Of this little book there have been printed nine copies on large paper, hand colored, and ninety-nine copies on small paper. The large paper copies are lettered A to I and the small paper copies are numbered 1 to 99"--Final leaf.
