Although Maillol executed his wood engravings for Virgil's Georgica between the years 1937 and 1944, with the title pages giving a date of 1937 for volume I and 1943 for volume II, the work was completed, as stated in the colophon, with the completion and publication of the second volume in 1950.
"Most of the cuts were executed by craftsmen after Maillol's drawings on the block, since at that time his eyes were not strong enough for the cutting."--Artist and the book.
Printed on wove paper with two watermarks of Maillol nudes (one with no lettering and the other with 'Maillol Gonin').
Ed. of 750 numbered copies.
