Notes
Although this biography of Chevalier de Beauchêne is viewed by many as fiction, the Dictionnaire de Biographie Française states that he really did live. In addition to the memoirs presented by his wife, evidence is found of the baptism in Montreal of a Robert Chevalier whom it is believed later became the sieur de Beauchêne.
