Ann Taylor who was 22 when this poem was first published, came from a large and talented family, many of whose members wrote for and about children. According to Osborne "it has been claimed that the author's brother, Isaac Taylor, drew the pictures, and that his model was Lady Hamilton" (pp. 739-740 ... Darton pp. 187-193).
Printed from copperplate engravings on tobacco colored paper. Each leaf features a line drawing of a mother and child printed above a stanza of the verse. The first two leaves are dated Nov. 10, 1807.
