"First English edition. Authored by Nathaniel and his sister Elizabeth. In spite of Bal 7582 "A note on British Editions" this is not an entirely new production. We have compared the American edition with this and our English edition is but slightly revised but in no sense a new version. Most of the text repeats the original American edition verbatim. The English edition does have completely new illustrations, more than 200 plates and smaller cuts. Pictorial-gold stamped back and blind impression sides of blue cloth. Precedes all editions other than the first American which appeared three months earlier and in two volumes. Front fly-leaf lacking (replaced) else not much off fine. Osborne lists only the fifth edition of 1849. Not in Gumuchian or Darton.
